Am I Covered To Carry Guests In My Car?

We received an e-mail newsletter from Alistair Sawday, the well known travel writer and publisher, urging holidaymakers to leave their cars at home and stay in Guest Houses or Holiday Homes whose owners collect visitors to and from the train. (To read the newsletter click here ). On the face of it this seems a good idea, it helps save the planet, and the extra service should attract more visitors. Many go futher, ferrying guests to and from local pubs and restaurants.

A word of caution, if you offer this service, tell your motor insurers. Most will do nothing, just mark their records - Others however, take the view that you are operating a taxi service (the fare being included in the overall accommodation fee) they may then increase your premium or cancel the policy. But at least you know where you stand - The worst case scenario is when an insurer finds out after any accident, then any claim could be rejected for non-disclosure.

Sorry we do not offer motor insurance, the above is for information only. We are always interested in feedback Click here to let us know your motor insurer's reaction.
